  3. ADDITIONAL NOTES:
  4.  
  5. 1)   IF you have only one Antenna, after following the instructions in
  6.      the manual under the section INSTALLATION AND PROGRAM
  7.      CONFIGURATION,  read APPENDIX D: MODIFYING THE DATABASE TO USE
  8.      ONLY ONE ANTENNA.
  9.  
  10. 2)   If you start DX-COMM PLUS and the Drake R8 is not powered on, a
  11.      "TIMEOUT" message will appear on the screen for a moment and then
  12.      be erased.  The purpose of this message is to indicate to the user
  13.      that the DX-COMM PLUS attempted to read data from the Drake and no
  14.      information appeared on the RS232 port over the prescribed read
  15.      period.  
  16.  
  17. 3)   For DX-COMM PLUS to work properly you should have no TSR (Terminate
  18.      and Stay Resident) programs residing in the DOS background.  DX-
  19.      COMM PLUS, with the as supplied 1800 records, needs approximately
  20.      500 to 550k of free memory (as measured prior to loading the
  21.      software) to run properly.  The symptom of insufficient memory will
  22.      be an "End-of-List" message in the Database Display Screen with no
  23.      data records displayed.

  25. 4)   Do not attempt to run DX-COMM PLUS by simply setting the path.  
  26.      Always run the program by executing it from within the
  27.      directory/sub-directory in which it resides.  Failure to do so may
  28.      result in lost datarecords.
  29.  
  30. 5)   When adding records to the database, be careful not to enter "2400"
  31.      in the End UTC field. Doing so confuses DX-COMM PLUS and could
  32.      lock-up the program.  Enter "0000" for midnight UTC.
  33.  
  34. 6)   If users experience a problem with the DX-COMM PLUS's Drake
  35.      parameter display where the only character displayed is "1" under
  36.      ANT, and the Drake R8 power is on and the correct com port has been
  37.      selected as prescribed in the manual's INSTALLATION AND PROGRAM
  38.      CONFIGURATION section, then read APPENDIX G: ALTERNATIVE TERMINAL
  39.      HANDSHAKING MODES.  After doing so perform the steps below.
  40.  
  41.      Step 1: Press Function 10 (F10).  This will activate the Dos Shell
  42.      command temporarily exiting the program to the DOS PROMPT.
  43.  
  44.      Step 2: At the DOS prompt type ALT_TERM and press <ENTER>.  This
  45.      will access the ALT_TERM.EXE program described in Appendix G.  
  46.  
  47.      Step 3: Change the program from Mode 8 to Mode 9 by typing "9". 
  48.      Upon typing "9" within a second or less the program will accept the
  49.      typed entry and will display "Time Delay=1".
  50.  
  51.      Step 4: Keep the "Time Delay" at 1 second by simply pressing
  52.      <ENTER>.  The program will now display "Ctrl Signal= ,DS150". 
  53.      Simply press <ENTER>.  This will return the DOS PROMPT.
  54.  
  55.      Step 5: At the DOS prompt type EXIT and press <ENTER>.  This will
  56.      return you back within the DATABASE DISPLAY Screen of DX-COMM PLUS.
  57.  
  58.      If you have the com port and the other configuration parameters
  59.      properly set, and the Drake R8 is on, you should see the Drake
  60.      parameters displayed across the top of the screen.  If they still
  61.      do not display go back to Steps 1-3.  Now simply press <ENTER> to
  62.      keep the mode as "9". At, Step 4 type in a time delay of "3"
  63.      seconds.  Upon doing so, within a second or less the program will
  64.      advance to the statement "Ctrl Signal=,DS150".  Simply press
  65.      <ENTER> and return to DX-COMM PLUS by typing EXIT at the DOS
  66.      PROMPT.

  71. CORRECTIONS TO MANUAL:
  72.  
  73. 1)   Correction: page 14, first full paragraph, fourth sentence.  The
  74.      reader is referred to "...page 13 concerning center frequency
  75.      offsets..."  This is incorrect.  This should refer the reader to
  76.      the paragraph on the same page 14 that begins, "...The next entry
  77.      requires you to identify .. active broadcast frequencies..."
  78.  
  79. 2)   Addition: Page 17, top of page.  The user is referred to Appendix
  80.      E for troubleshooting  In addition, the reader should refer to
  81.      Appendix G and Item (2) in this Addendum.

  83. 3)   Addition: Page 39 under the paragraph that addresses finding
  84.      Frequency data.  It is important, for example, when searching the
  85.      database for the frequency 5.97500 Mhz that one type this in as  
  86.      < 5.975> with a space preceding the number "5".
  87.  
  88. 4)   Correction: Page 70, 3rd paragraph.  The sentence, "The program
  89.      disk is configured for mode 7", should instead read, "The program
  90.      disk is configured for mode 8".

  95. While considerable time and effort went in to developing DX-COMM PLUS
  96. this doesn't mean that there isn't room for improvement.  Many of the
  97. features provided are a result of the author's own personal preferences
  98. (colors, keystroke schemes, etc.).  The author encourages you to provide
  99. comments and feedback as to the additional features you would like in
  100. subsequent releases of the software.  If you purchased DX-COMM PLUS and
  101. provide EBS Consultants feedback, we guarantee that you will be given
  102. one free upgrade of the program when a subsequent release is developed.
